We are a technology platform — not a law firm
Everything on RentGuard Nexus™ is provided for support and education. Legal advice comes only from independent attorneys, including our third-party legal partners.
Read this first
- We do not give legal advice and no attorney–client relationship is created.
- Our AI can make mistakes — always verify before you act.
- Scores and reports are indicative, not credit decisions or guarantees.
- For binding advice, use our legal partners or an attorney of your choice.
1. We are not a law firm
RentGuard Nexus™ is a trading name of The Devon Towers Group (Pty) Ltd (CIPC registration 2025/663915/07), a technology company. We are not a law firm, attorney, conveyancer, advocate, estate agency, credit provider, financial services provider, insurer, debt counsellor or credit bureau.
- No attorney–client relationship is created by using the platform, contacting support, or generating a document.
- No legal professional privilege attaches to information you submit to us.
- We do not represent users in courts, tribunals, or any legal or regulatory proceedings.
- We do not litigate, negotiate, or act on your behalf unless expressly agreed in a separate signed mandate.
2. Information is for support and education only
All content on the platform — including guides, checklists, templates, letters, notices, calculators, scores, reports, assessments, and AI responses — is provided for general informational, support and educational purposes only.
- It is not legal advice, financial advice, tax advice, insurance advice, or a credit recommendation.
- It is not tailored to your specific facts, and it may not reflect the most recent changes in law or practice.
- You should not act, or refrain from acting, solely on the basis of platform content.
- Templates and generated documents must be reviewed by a qualified professional before you rely on or send them.
3. Legal advice is provided only by third-party legal partners
Where you need legal advice, representation, or a binding legal opinion, we refer you to independent attorneys and legal service providers listed in our legal partner directory, or to your Provincial Rental Housing Tribunal, the Legal Aid South Africa office, or the Community Advice Office nearest you.
- Legal partners are independent third parties. They are not our employees, agents or joint venturers.
- Their advice, fees, engagement terms, professional indemnity cover and outcomes are entirely their own.
- We do not supervise, endorse the outcome of, or accept liability for services rendered by a legal partner.
- A referral is not a recommendation that a specific attorney is suitable for your matter — you should satisfy yourself of their suitability.
4. Artificial intelligence can make mistakes
Nexus AI and every AI-assisted feature (lease analysis, dispute assistance, letter drafting, risk scoring, payment behaviour analysis, chat) use automated language models. These systems are probabilistic and can and do make mistakes.
- AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or confidently wrong ("hallucinated").
- Cited legislation, case names, section numbers, deadlines and amounts must be independently verified.
- AI does not know facts you have not given it, and cannot exercise professional judgement.
- AI output is never a substitute for advice from a qualified attorney or financial professional.
- Nexus AI recommends actions; it does not act without your explicit confirmation.
- Do not submit information to AI features that you are not permitted to share.
You remain solely responsible for reviewing AI output and for any decision you take based on it.
5. Scores, reports and estimates are indicative
Rental Passport™ scores, Trust Scores, Bond Readiness figures, affordability and rent-to-own calculations, occupancy cost intelligence, and risk radar outputs are analytical indicators derived from data recorded on the platform.
- They are not credit scores, credit decisions, valuations, or guarantees of approval by any lender or landlord.
- Bond and affordability figures use stated assumptions and are illustrative only.
- Reports intended for credit bureaux, landlords or financiers reflect only the data you and your verified sources have supplied.
- We do not guarantee that any third party will accept, act on, or agree with our reports.
6. Verification, screening and third-party data
Identity verification, credit enquiries, criminal record checks and fraud intelligence rely on data supplied by accredited third-party bureaux, government sources and users.
- We do not warrant the accuracy, completeness or currency of third-party data.
- Checks are conducted only with your explicit written consent as required by POPIA and the National Credit Act.
- A clear result is not a guarantee of a person's honesty, solvency or future conduct.
- Disputes about bureau data must be raised with the relevant bureau or source; we will assist where we can.
7. No guaranteed outcomes
We do not guarantee any particular result, including that you will:
- recover a deposit, win a dispute, or avoid an eviction;
- be approved for a lease, a home loan, a subsidy or any credit facility;
- improve your credit profile or score by any specific amount or within any period;
- avoid rental fraud, loss or damage.
Testimonials, examples and illustrative figures do not represent typical or promised outcomes.
8. Your responsibilities
- Provide accurate, current and lawful information, and keep your credentials confidential.
- Meet your own deadlines — the platform's reminders are a convenience, not a guarantee.
- Obtain professional advice before signing, sending, cancelling or litigating anything material.
- Comply with your lease, applicable law, and the rights of other parties.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law, including the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008, The Devon Towers Group (Pty) Ltd, its directors, employees and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, punitive or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, savings, data, reputation or opportunity, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the platform or any content, AI output, report, referral or third-party service.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded, our total aggregate liability for all claims in any twelve-month period is limited to the total subscription and service fees you actually paid to us in that period.
Nothing in this disclaimer limits liability for gross negligence, fraud, wilful misconduct, or any liability that cannot be limited under law.
10. Indemnity
You indemnify and hold us harmless against any claim, loss, damage, penalty or expense (including reasonable legal costs) arising from your breach of these terms or our policies, your submission of false or unlawful information, your misuse of another person's data, or your reliance on platform content without obtaining professional advice.
11. Availability and changes
- The platform is provided "as is" and "as available"; uninterrupted or error-free operation is not warranted.
- Features, pricing, partners and turnaround times may change, and services may be suspended for maintenance or legal reasons.
- We may update this disclaimer from time to time. Continued use after an update constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing law, complaints and contact
This disclaimer is governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, and the South African courts have exclusive jurisdiction. Rental disputes may also be referred to the relevant Provincial Rental Housing Tribunal at no cost.
